Welcome to Joy Suzanne ’s art space. Nature, the ever changing light is something we view each day. I give thanks first to Jesus my Father who blessed me with a passion for creativity and painting. I would consider myself a colorist with an interest in juxtapostion, color, and shapes in composition. My background started with Oriental design painting in the traditional method of sumi ink on rice paper. Oriental design to me is absolute perfection and some methods have been incorporated into my art. After years of working in the pottery industry as a ceramic decorator I worked first on green ware and then on bisque. The pieces were a variety of lamp bases, vases and planters. Learning how to use sumi brushes and water solouble oxides opened the door for eperimentation on bisqueware. From beet juice, watercolors, oils, acrylic paints on a gessoed surface I also used underglazes, overglazes, gold lusters and different drawing materials. Encouraged at work I enrolled in an art class and I found myself hooked on all aspects of art especially color, design and composition. Watercolor is the medium now that I primarily work in. Perhaps it was the years of working on clay bodies with the oxides but remains my favorite medium but also enjoy painting in oils, mixed media and fabric.
My inspiration comes from my own photographs, imges of nature and creative ideas. Sometimes a certain color will trigger an idea or a pattern will come to mind. Self-taught, I have painted for about 20 years but with lapses in time due to life. Fortunately I had a good beginning watercolor instructor where strong fundamentals were learned. Art is an experiment one after the other, honing in on painting skills, collecting ideas, thinking out the process and most of all enjoyment for pure pleasure of painting.
I enjoy painting florals especially as they bring me much joy to be around nature but different subjects interest me as well.
